Q: Is there a high cholestrol level in chicken feet?
In chinese dishes, it is popular to eat chicken feet.
they are nice anyway :)
Well, I am asking if it has high cholestrol in it, and bad for our health if we eat too much.
thanks!
A: This file I found (see link) may answer your question
Q: What is the amount of boiled Drumsticks(skin removed) that can be had in a day for high-cholestrol people?
Ok recenlty my brother found that he had Diabetes and he met the dietician. The dietician told my brother to take 6 legs(with skin removed) of chicken with bread. So I also found out that I have high-cholestrol(235).So is it okay if I can take atleast 4 legs a day?
A: Cholesterol is a complicated topic. The 235 may be a little high, if that is your total cholesterol. However, it is important to know how much of that is "good" HDL cholesterol, and how much is LDL, triglycerides, and VLDL. The total number by itself is almost completely useless.
Recent research has shown that the real culprits causing high cholesterol are trans fats and saturated fats. Dietary cholesterol is less of a factor than trans fats and saturated fats.
With that in mind, it appears that skinless boiled drumsticks may be OK for you. Compared to many other meats, skinless boiled (or roasted) drumsticks are relatively low in calories, total fat and saturated fat.
So, even though it goes against the old (and outdated) advice, go ahead and eat some meat and even some eggs. Just stay away from all the junk food that is loaded with trans fats and saturated fats.
Oh, and one more thing: exercise can do a lot to lower your cholesterol.
If you can improve your cholesterol numbers thriough diet and exercise, you will be a lot better off than if you take medicines like statins and niacin. The medicines have side effects. Good nutrition and exercise are natural, and better than drugs.
For specific nutrition facts about chicken drumsticks and other meats, look over the comparative chart at http://www.hormel.com/templates/knowledge/knowledge.asp?catitemid=31&id=160&floater=disabled&floateralwaysdisabled=true
Q: Does non-dairy creamer & contribute to high cholestrol ?
I am a tea lover & I take them with creamer or condensed milk. I do have high cholestrol issue. I'm concern now if the non-dairy creamer (& the condensed milk) are contributing to it. I take about 3 cups of tea a day. I want to know cos if its bad then I will change my habits. Thanks.
A: Yes.
Read what's in it, and you will leave it alone.
Q: Is there an alternative to statins to treat high cholestrol?
In the treatment of hereditory type high cholestrol what is available instead of statins
A: the asker specifically asks for hereditary type2 while diet is a good alternative if you have hypercholestrolemia which is acquired simply due to lifestyle but you rightly have been in search of alternate treatment as of now modern medicine has not come up with one except for statins
while diet will obviously reduce progression but statins depending on personal preference of your physician are the only treatment
I tend to drift towards atorvastatin as I have found my patients to respond well to that
all the other answers are obviously worth a shot but i would doubt their effectiveness
Q: What can I eat to lower High cholestrol?
Is there a web site where I can monitor what I eat to keep my cholestrol at a normal level?I have no clue what to eat.
A: Oatmeal, lots of high fiber dark colored vegetables, switch butters to Benecol or Smart Balance, drink lots of water, EXERCISE, and Omega 3's are important-found in fish.
Q: How much time it takes for High cholestrol to create blocks in heart?
I am having cholestrol above normal from last two years.
I am avoiding using Liptor and trying by natural means
A: High cholesterol is just one of many factors.
Blockages take years if not decades to form and become serious. They can be aggravated by stress or stressful situations depending on the individual and their environment, job, family, hobbies, and lifestyle.
Look up information on diets of Pritikin, Fuhrman, Ornish and others on WebMD. A new book by cardiologist Richard Flanigan, "Longevity Made Simple" give an excellent summary of findings from the last 5-10 years or so.
What you want to do can be done, and has been done by some.
Q: What are some foods that aren't high in cholestrol?
I just got it checked and my cholestrol is too high. Any foods that aren't high and would be good to eat? Thank you.
A: Cholesterol is found only in foods that come from animals: meat, cheese, eggs, milk... Eat foods from non animal sources and you'll be fine. Limit your consumption of saturated fats - these cause your cholesterol to go up and instead eat unsaturated fats. You should also eat foods high in fiber. Fiber decreases cholesterol.
Q: What ingredients should I avoid when cooking for a person with High Cholestrol?
Uhm.. Hi. I'm a 14 year old girl, and I'm visiting my dad for Christmas.
He hasn't been doing a good job with cooking himself and he has a problem with MSG.. , he has high cholesterol too. I'm really worried about his health, and I wanted to cook for him instead of going out to eat.
What types of food should he avoid? or ingredients that i should avoid when i cook?
A: What a good daughter you are! Your Dad is so lucky to have someone like you.
Check with your Dad about his likes and dislikes. Remember to go easy on beef and pork dishes. Watch the eggs. Try eating meat as more of an accent rather than the main course. For example make up a stir-fry using bits of meat or try making a vegetable soup with meat in it.
Use egg beaters or that equivalent.
Eat fish. Fish twice a week is good for you.
Eat more oatmeal.
Avoid processed foods. They contain a lot of salt and MSG.
I forgot to add: Eat more fruits and veggies. They'll help round out the meal and fill you up.
Q: What do you eat when you have high cholestrol?
My mom needs help she doesn't know what to eat. And they figure out that one brand of cereal does not help.
A: Tell your mom to either avoid or limit the amount of animal products consumed such as eggs, meat, milk, and cheese. Instead get egg beaters, very little meat, and soy milk. That is what I do because I have gallstones and I have to stay away from cholesterol as much as possible. Also, eat a diet that is high in fiber because fiber helps to get rid of the bad cholesterol. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and beans are all high in fiber. Good luck!!
Q: Is it true that person having high cholestrol should not consume cashew nut?
Is it true that person having high cholestrol should not consume cashew nut
A: Actually, just the opposite. Nuts have oils that help lubricate vessels and arteries. You need to make sure they are organic nuts with no added butter, etc.
The oil in the nut his hydrophobic, meaning oil seperates in water. Cholesterol acts the same way.
Q: What diet suits a diabetic, high cholestrol 50 year old? read more below?
He doesnt really like vegetables or any healthy foods..
before this he practically lived on diet coke, lots of fatty junk foods.
Is there any diet that wont make him feel so deprived?
Like would vegeterian pizza and bruschette be alright to eat?
A: I think the bread is what is bad in the pizza & bruschette. Go to the food & recipe section here. I bet the cheifs over there could come up with a way of having less bread involved but the flavor with it or maybe a whole grain vs. a white bread. I would put some veggies in the sauce. Jerry Seinfeld's wife wrote a book for kids & it is about how to put the veggies in with out them noticing so take that approach. I don't care for broccolli but if it just happens to be on pizza it tastes better.
I didn't like health food either but at times I have changed then I get bored again. We would go to the salad bar at our grocery store & put some spinach in a small container. Buy some walnuts & toast them but you have to watch cause they will burn if you look away & forget. We would had whatever veggies we like & then we have a jar with some olive oil & red wine vingar in it...I don't know what the alcohol content is so check if he can not have alcohol.
I take a case of water I buy from Walmart & line up the amount I have to drink aday. Then I can see how many bottles of water I have had. Make sure he starts the day drinking a bottle then gets the rest done hours before bed time. Diabetics need to get good straight through sleep. I also will freeze a yogurt for a nighttime dessert. The calcium helps you have a relaxing sleep. He doesn't have to do everything at once. But if he is motivated to do that then great. I took my changes slowly but I am much better now so the begining is always the hardest part.
Q: My father has been experiencing high cholestrol for ages. He has been restricted to a diet of only vegetable?
and fish. Please can anyone recommend such dishes that can be eaten on a daily or weekly basis? Dessert incuded.
A: You have a list of permitted foods on a low fat diet here: http://fat.sylickon.com/howdiet.php
Q: Can anybody suggest a low cholestrol diet ? Also does coca cola cause high cholestrol?
I have high cholestrol any ideas for food?
A: Lean meat (preferably chicken or turkey), white and oily fish, lots of vegetables.
Eat lots of rice, lentils and other pulses; wholemeal bread and brown rice and pasta.
Avoid eggs, shellfish, cream, fatty and red meats, butter and ready-made meals.
I've never heard of coca cola being directly responsible for high cholestrol, but it is very fattening, and has a lot of sugar in it - and being overweight is an indicator for high cholestrol.
Take lots of exercise, and try to eat nuts or seeds at least once a day.
Q: Olive,Sunflower or vegetable oil which is best for high cholestrol?
I have very high cholestrol 7.5 I use olive oil spread but not every day. I work in a garage and it,s easy to pick up a sandwich but I choose salmon or chicken with a low fat count.I use sunflower oil for chips (yes I know chips are bad) and olive oil for all other cooking. so, are any oils good for you or are all bad?
A: Some oils can be a benefit, like Flax oil with a heavy ALA content. It has been shown that a small amount of olive oil can be a benefit as well, and many European diets include a small glass of that everyday.
