Q: Does anyone know a list of asthma medication that NYS medicaid accepts?
I was taking (Symbicort) to control my asthma and my medicaid didn't cover it. It covered my rescue inhaler and but not my control medication. Does anyone know where i can find a list that covers my asthma control medication?

A: for Asthma: http://www.webmd.com/asthma/default.htm -Advair Diskus -Albuterol -Asmanex -Foradil -Flovent -Prednisone -Pulmicort -Singulair -Symbicort -Ventolin -Xolair -Xopenex I use albuterol and medicaid covers it and Ventolin, I also use Asmanex (all are cover by medicaid) ***I live in Queens, New York Your doctor can tell you what medication is covered. The doctor should prescribe according to the insurance that you have!

Q: How much does asthma medication cost?
I need to know what drugs might be prescribed for a typical, severe case of asthma, and how much those medications would cost if one did not have insurance. Also, what sort of dose and how often is it taken? I am a writer using this for a story. Nothing will be taken as personal medical advice. Thanks!

A: You can easily check your minimal health care rates in internet, for example here - health-quotes.talk4fun.net

Q: Should I continue to take my asthma medication during pregnancy or wait?
I take Bronkaid for asthma on a regular basis. Right now I am 8 weeks pregnant and have since stopped since finding out about my pregnancy at 5 weeks. However since then my asthma has worsened at times. The soonest my OB can get me in is in a couple a weeks. For the time being should I resist from taking bronkaid and wait to hear from an OB or should I go ahead and take it when needed. Serious answers only! Thank you!

A: I got asthma and my OB said that Albuterol is fine. You should to talk to your regular doctor about that just to be ready if there was a emergency or if you would have a asthma attack.

Q: Does any body know where I can find pictures of recent asthma medication?
doing a power point and need more recent medicines. already have the inhaler and a Frolov's Respiration Training Device pic for my power point

A: If you're looking for specific ones, go to that brands website. Then on your keyboard, hit the print screen button (PrtSC), on my laptop, it is above F10. But on a regular keyboard it might be on the same line as all of the F# buttons. Then go to paint, CTRL+V and edit it in paint. OR, you can try google image search.

Q: Asthma medication suggestions for a 4 year old.?
I have tried pulmicort and flovent for my 4 year olds asthma problem. They both make him behave very badly. He cries over everything he is mean and he is aggressive. He cries to me and tells me he does not want to be bad. I do not know what to do has anyone else had this problem and the doctor tells me it is not from the medicine but i know that it is. Any suggestions on other medication?

A: Asthma medications are brocho-dylators and do cause a bit of hyperness in children especially. My son was severe asthmatic and had ADHD and used these meds too along with an ADHD med so if you are having more than the usual hypeness you might want to have him checked for ADHD so you'll know and be able to treat his health issues and if it's only the meds for asthma tell his doctor all of this nad see if there is an alternative to the ones that cause worse behavior. My son has asthma still but has outgrown the ADHD problems and only uses an inhaler occasionally

Q: Does excessve allergy and asthma medication reduce one's attention span?
For my allergies and asthma, I use one symbicort puff and a nasal spray (two sprays); I do the whole thing once I awake and before I sleep. I've started it again recently and noticed that I've started to lose focus in my work, is there a connection? I noticed that my allergy meds both contain some form of steroids....??

A: No they should not. They do have steroids in them but since they are targeted into the nose and into the lungs they do not have those side effects.

Q: Is there anything I can do to help with my asthma induced shortness of breath until i can get some medication?
I had an asthma attack today (while biking in the cold), and, because it is the first one I have had in a decade, I have no medication. I have been short of breath for hours today and i am starting to feel light-headed. I will go to the doctor tomorrow, but in the mean time, I just need to get my breath back, even little bit. I am having trouble taking deep breaths.

A: The bad thing about asthma is that it can go bad fast without treatment. I think you should go to the ER NOW! I have seen people die who waited. Have somebody drive you or call 911, I think you should call 911, they can give you a treatment when they get to your home, and keep giving it to you on the way. Please don't make the mistake of waiting all night to get help.

Q: Breastfeeding and Asthma medication?
Does anyone know what asthma medication are safe to take well breastfeeding? I am on the blue inhaler (Ventolin) but my asthma is not controlled! I went to my doctor today and she couldn't tell me one way or the other on the safety of taking the meds. Do you know of any websites I could check up on the medication risks? I have tried Mothers risk and Patient up to date and didn't get anything! Please Help!! Thanks!

A: Hi.. There's no research out there to see if Ventolin is passed through breast milk. However, it is thought that Ventolin is probably safe for most women who are breastfeeding. If your doctor recommended taking Ventolin while breastfeeding, be sure to watch for any side effects in your nursing baby ( make sure you are not exceeding the recommended dose/day). Inhalers, bronchodilators, and corticosteroids such as Albuterol, VancerilUsed for asthma, all considered to be safe to administer during breastfeeding check this link for all safe drugs during breast feeding including asthma medications http://www.babycenter.com/0_drug-safety-during-breastfeeding_8790.bc note also : Inhaled steroids for the treatment of asthma achieve very low levels in maternal plasma and are of no concern for the breast-feeding mother. Fluticasone (Flovent) has the lowest serum levels of the inhaled steroids. Oral steroids such as prednisone (Deltasone) and prednisolone (Delta-Cortef) penetrate into the breast milk poorly and are safe for short-term use only. When daily dosages exceed 20 mg, prednisolone may be preferred over prednisone because it has only one peak in activity while prednisone has two peaks in activity also note: Infant exposure can be minimized by withholding nursing for four hours after taking the medication. My advice is just to control asthma with the appropriate medications prescribed by your doctor, and not to exceed the daily dose & avoid asthma triggers, otherwise most of anti asthmatics are 100% safe if you fellow medication use instructions also check this interesting study :) http://www.breastfeeding.com/all_about/all_about_asthma.html it's also a web site for Breast Feeding Advices ... take care :)

Q: Getting Asthma Medication Refill?
I am 17 years old and I almost out of my last asthma medication. Thing is I want to try to refill my asmtha inhaler without my parents always doing it for me. How do I get a refill and how much does it usually cost?

A: you take your prescription box to the pharmacy that your parents use and turn it in to them at the drop off window. the cost depends on what type of medication you are getting and what type of insurance you have. why not ask your parents what they spend on your inhalers, and what pharmacy they use (though the pharmacy name should be on the box).

Q: Anyone know a good medication for Asthma?
I have a case of asthma that will not go away. I have about 4 inhalers and I take xopenex ( I think that's how you spell it.) on a nebulizer. Still, I cough all the time and people say i always look pale and sick. A lot of the time I get pulled out of school because I have suchh severe attacks that I can't breathe. Suggestions?

A: Xopenex is a personal fave for nebulizer meds so your good there. Possibly adding Pulmicort an inhaled steroid and/or Advair to your regemin may make a difference. The inhaled steroids work as a maintenece medication and help keep your airways calm and uninflamed. I highly recommend adding one. Also Atrovent or Spiriva, they are a different type of bronchodilator so they can be taken with the Xopenex and have a different effect on your lungs. Hope this helps.

Q: Long-time asthma sufferers: what medication works best for you?
I'm a long-time sufferer of asthma & bronchitis / asthma. I think my body has built an immunity against my medications, they just aren't cutting it anymore. Have any of you gone through the same thing yet finally found 'the one'? If so, please let me know about it--my breathlessness & wheezing are keeping me up at night! Thanks!

A: Singulair works for me, http://www.pharmacynextdoor.com/order_asthma_without_prescription.html

Q: does the military provide asthma medication for people with asthma?
this question has nuthing to do with my asthma

A: You cannot join with asthma. If you were in and were diagnosed with asthma you would then be provided with the necessary medication until you were med boarded out.

Q: Asthma medication singulair as a cause of depression?
Just today I found out about this on the news. I've been taking it for a long time. More than 3 years I think. I don't feel depressed, but I'm sad quite a bit and not very social at all. Has anyone taken Singulair and felt depressed? I just found out too that it causes headaches in a lot of cases, and I get headaches almost every day. The 'wonder drug' isn't seeming so wonderful anymore... :D

A: I just heard about this too. I have been taking it for at LEAST two years. But as a usual teenager, I have forgotten to take it plenty of times and I have gone months without taking it but this year, I really wanted to control my asthma and I too feel so apathetic to everything and I am very anti-social which is not normal for me. I have been taking it religiously this year and now I am wondering if i should continue.

Q: Does anyone know how to get over an asthma attack without taking any medication?
I don't have the means to get the inhalers I need. And I have a machine but I won't be able to use it because I will be living in my car for a couple months. Does anyone know how to help an attack with no medication?

A: there are a few ways ( #1 ) is a tea made from Lobelia, Garlic, Yerba santa, Blackthorn, Gum plant, Euphorbia, Ground ivy, Blue vervain, and Cayenne. Simmer 8 Tbsp. mixture in 1 qt. water for 20 minutes and strain. Take 4 Tbsp. as a first dose, followed by 2 Tbsp. every half hour. when the attack subsides, take 4 Tbsp. every 4 hours.
