Q: asthma......?
My boyfriend has asthma and he's sick of the pills and inhalers. He would rather do something more natural to help it. Anyone have any ideas or do anything to help their asthma?
A: The best non-medication treatment for asthma is to learn your triggers and avoid them. Asthma is an allergy. Allergies are triggered by irritants. If its pets, don't let the pet in the house or at least not in the bedroom. If its smoke, don't smoke or go places that are smoky. If you are unable to figure out your triggers, you will need prescription medications. Natural remedies just don't work most of the time. That said, a new study showed that a large amount of fish oil pills each day will help with relieving asthma symptoms. The test subjects were taking 12-15 fish oil pills each day.
Good luck
Q: How to treat asthma and how to prevent allrgic asthma attacks?
I have always been sensitive to air pollution, smoke, dust, pollen and other things that trigger asthma. How can I help myselfwith asthma attacks?
A: Do not smoke or allow smoking in your home - Babies exposed to tobacco smoke are more likely to get asthma. If a woman is exposed to tobacco smoke during pregnancy, her baby may also be more likely to get asthma.
If animal dander is a problem for you, keep your pet out of the house or at least out of your bedroom, or find it a new home.
If pollen is a problem for you, if possible, stay indoors with the air conditioner on, when the pollen count is high. Do not run the air-conditioning, whether in car or indoors, on the setting that draws in outside air and cools it. Outside air brings with it pollen, and cool, pollinated air is bad for asthma.
To control dust mites, wash your sheets, blankets, pillows, and stuffed toys once a week in hot water. You can get special dust proof covers for your mattress and pillows.
If cold air bothers you, wear a scarf over your mouth and nose in the winter.
There are a number of highly effective herbal and homeopathic remedies that may be used for the successful treatment of asthma and other respiratory conditions. Depending on the severity of the asthma, natural remedies can either reduce or completely eliminate the need for the synthetic drugs and are often used in conjunction with conventional medications as a part of a holistic treatment plan.
Herbal ingredients such as Matricaria recutita and Astralagus are known for their antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties, while homeopathic ingredients such as Mag. Phos. and Nat. Sulph are successful at easing chest and throat constriction and soothing mucous membranes while reducing the presence of phlegm in the chest. Used regularly, natural remedies can help improve respiratory health, reduce the incidence and severity of asthma attacks while strengthening the immune system.

Q: How much does asthma medicine for a nebulizer cost?
My girlfriend may need to get a nebulizer to treat her asthma. We are having trouble finding an average cost for the medicine used with one. I realize that there different medicines that can be used, but what is the average cost we can expect for the medicine?
A: The actualy nebulizer is pretty pricy...from 100 to 300 hundred dollars and the actualy medicine itself actually is pretty cheep, about 55 dollars but it comes with 50 vial tubes and only one is needed in each treatment.
THen again you need to see what your insurance covers because with our insurance the machine cost $50 and the medicine $22.
Good Luck, hope you can find your answer!
Q: How might my asthma react to the hot and humid weather in Thailand?
Going on a 3 week holiday but unsure how humidity and heat and asthma mix? Thanks
I'm going to Chiang Mai in the north.
A: It truly depends on your body and your symptoms. Mine act up more in a dry heat in the summer verses a humid heat.
Q: Asthma: What are some ways to control a cough for a child with asthma?
My niece is staying with us and has asthma and has started coughing. It was a last minute decision and she didn't have her inhaler with her. She's sleeping and just starting to cough, but I don't want to let that go because it could throw her into an attack.
A: This has happened to me as well. I have asthma and when I sleep over at someone's house my lungs usually flair up. Its probably because of an alergin in the area. Is your niece sleeping on the floor or in a bed? If on the floor, it could be dust, and if in a bed, it could be that the bedding is feather. I would reccomend checking the bedding to see if it has feathers in it. Some other common triggers that could be causing the cough are pollen, cat or other animal dander, dust mites, or mildew/mold. If you can find the trigger and remove it, you should be good to go.
Q: Whats the difference between an Asthma attack and having Asthma?
What is the difference?
Sometimes my friend will be lyk "oh i just have asthma right now"
and at other times he would say something lyk "I had an asthma attack".
I know asthma attacks are when you cant breathe, but isnt having asthma the same thing? And if having an asthma attack means abruptly, they cant happen abruptly right? something needs to trigger it?
And if you are sleeping and you wake up and have an asthma attack, what caused that?
Sorry for so many questions, 10 points to best answer.
A: First off. I've had Asthma since I was born. In some areas it's bad. Alot of the main things that trigger Asthma are (but are not limited to) Pollution (I once lived on a Air Force Base so that gave me alot of trouble),Pollen,if you have any Animal Allergys that can trigger it, Smoke (definately),and Changing of the seasons (it might be just for me =(.). Also having a Asthma attack is not always serious. Although it should be treated immediately it can range from just a slight shortness of breath to where you can barely breathe to not being able to breathe at all. Everyone with Asthma should have a strong enough Inhaler nearby incase of a Attack since they can come randomly. I know this since I've had them recently. For awhile I was having a slight shortness of breath and I shrugged it off then 3 months later as I was watching a movie I fell asleep. I woke up near the end barely being able to breathe. I had to rush to the hospital to get a inhaler. After learning from that mistake I always carry it everywhere. Asthma Attacks would most likely wake you up if you're sleeping and as I said they can be random or there could've been some source in your house as in Smoke,Dander, etc. etc. Something doesn't always need to trigger it to answer that question. It's completely random. Asthma has always been around, and yes people have died from it before there was a treatment available. Currently there are Inhalers,Nebulizers, and portable Nebulizers for treatments that I know. Asthma is not curable and it can be developed in life. Not everyone developes it and it's uncommon to see someone develope it. I hope this answers most of your questions and if not just say so and I'll post additional info. about Asthma. It's something serious but it can be controled if you're prepared. Hope this helps ^^.
Q: How is it that swimming is good for asthma?
I have asthma (minor, but still, I have it), and I've been told that swimming is the best thing an asmatic can do.
Why is that? I know that all arobic exercises are good for your asthma but swimming seems to be the first things people tell you is good. So, why swimming as opposed to say, jogging or biking.
I'm just curious, considering starting a regular swimming workout. Thanks.
A: This is for people with Asthma:
Are some kinds of exercise worse than others?
Yes.
If you take different kinds of exercise so that you use the same amount of oxygen in each one, some will cause more wheeziness or chest tightness than others. Running outdoors will in general be worse than swimming. In fact swimming is one of the best forms of exercise for people with asthma because it usually causes the least amount of chest tightness. Running indoors on a treadmill, or cycling on an indoor exercise bike will come somewhere between outdoor running and swimming.
Other factors influence the amount of worsening of your breathing which you get from a particular form of exercise. Generally for example, if the air you breathe is cold and dry, the asthma will be worse. If it is warm and moist, the asthma will be less bad. This explains why swimming generally causes less asthma than outdoor running.
You can read more about this if you follow the link below.
Hope this helps.
Q: Can one grow out of exercise induced asthma?
I had seasonal asthma as a child and I grew out of that, but I then developed exercise induced asthma, I am currently a 13 year-old girl and was planning on joining the navy when I am older. But, I understand that with this disadvantage that would be unlikely. So, Is it possible that I could "grow out" of my exercise induced asthma, as
I did my seasonal asthma?
A: I did. I had moderate asthma in my childhood and no longer have attacks.
I've also seen people make real progress re: asthma, hay fever, eczema, etc., by alternative methods. Gluten-free and casein-free diets, probiotics, environmental changes (no cats, dust mites, HEPA vacuum bags, etc.). Just Google "asthma" and "alternative" and you'll find some popular approaches.
Q: Is it possible to develop asthma from having a human to dog allergy?
If you have a small allergy to a dog and you have a dog in your house is it possible that you could develop asthma or other serious problems?
And she's a very small dog.
A: yes you can. Your best bet is to live dog-free, but in lieu of that..
Make your bedroom a dog-free zone. The dog is not allowed to enter or touch anything.. especially your bed and pillows. If the dog has been allowed on your pillows, you can try washing your pillows, but probably just best to buy all new ones. Breathing in that dander at night if you're allergic to dogs is highly suicidal. :)
Wash after petting the dog. Do not touch your face with dog contaminated hands, and try to keep the dog off your clothes as much as possible. Wash up as soon as possible. If you like having the dog as a lapdog, change your clothes immediately after the snuggle time and wash your face & hands.
At night, when you go to bed, change into 100% dog-free clothing before touching your bed. You'll want the place that you sleep to be as pristinely dog-free as humanly possible.
Carpets are actually helpful with animal dander.. it seems to trap it that its not as airborne. That said, vacuuming regularly should be done with a hepa filter vacuum, and preferably by someone else when you're not home. If you are the one that vacuums, try wearing a filter-mask while vacuuming and for an hour after it until the "dust" settles.
Q: How do you get rid of Asthma or Bronchitis?
Everytime i sleep over at my friends house, I get bronchitis for about 3-4 weeks. I found out that my asthma is the problem and since they have dogs, i tend to get bronchitis if i stay at their house for too long. Is there anyway to calm down bronchitis or asthma or to permantly get rid of asthma? I have an inhaler btw. What can i also do to help treat it because i have it right now.
A: There is no way of getting rid of asthma permenantly. If you have a preventative inhaler you can use to prevent getting ill, but it doesn't always work. Usually if you were quite young when you first got asthma it is quite likely that you will grow out of it. Mine is definately not as bad as it used to be.
Q: What are better ways of controlling my asthma?
I have horrible asthma, but I like to go to the gym and run/work out. It's hard though because my chest ends up hurting and I start wheezing before it can really do much for me LOL. I take advair and I have an albuterol inhaler that I carry around with me, but is there anything else a doctor could do for me? A surgical procedure maybe?
A: There are no surgical procedures for asthma. The Advair might be making your asthma worse, when I took it that happened to me. Something to do with one of the ingredients called Salmeterol. Talk to your doctor and see if you should change medications, something like Symbicort, Qvar, Singulair, etc.
