Q: mold allergies?
i believe i may have developed mold allergies? what do you think? i have had a runny nose stuffy nose, and my eyes have been dry and one has been blurry, and i am totally rundown and tired. the mold forecast is high in my area after a week of rain and now hot weather. what should i take for this?

A: Very possible. You can find out for sure by a blood test at your primary care doctor's office - or skin testing at an allergist's (skin testing is expensive). You definitely sound as if you are suffering from allergies - the question is - what are you allergic to? The testing narrows that down for you. In the absence of formal testing, you can treat allergies with OTC (over the counter) medicines. Claritin or ALavert are excellent low sedation alternatives. Since these are once a day meds - take them at bedtime and if you were to have drowsiness - it would be gone before you wake up. Also, make sure there is no mold in your home!! That can be a major trigger for allergic symptoms! If your symptoms are significantly less when staying elsewhere (hotel or friends' home) that might lead you to believe that your home may have a mold contamination problem. Last, there is a nasal irrigator which works incredibly well called a "Neti Pot." It is so effective, inexpensive, and safe - it was even on the Oprah Show. This works by washing away the "allergens" (the particles which adhere, or stick, to your nasal mucosa) and by getting rid of the swelling in the nose. If you use this Neti Pot - buy a container of sea salt rather than the packets they give you - works just as good and is much cheaper.

Q: MOLD ALLERGIES??????????????????
Ok, so I know there is mold inside my walls in my room, and i have really bad allergies from it and it is causing me to do bad in school. I know I can't get rid if it because my family doesnt have the money. What should I do??????

A: J, If there is mold growing INSIDE your walls it has to be 100% toxic. And if your living in a toxic mold environment your in grave danger to say the least. Toxic mold can cause brain damage and if your lucky death! Symptoms of Toxic mold exposure usually starts with headaches, respiratory distress normally misdiagnosed as asthma and once your brain starts to swell from the toxins you will experience tremendous headaches, slurred speech, dizziness, severe fatigue, loss of bodily functions during sleep etc etc and the list goes on. YOU ARE IN GRAVE DANGER!!!!! you and your family need to get out immediately before the damage is irreversible. for more on toxic mold exposure please go to www.myspace.com/photoguys2003

Q: Are mold allergies helped by moving to a dry climate?
My daughter has been diagnosed with an allergy to the phoma mold family. We live in an area with very cold winters and hot, humid summers. I am wondering if a desert climate is beneficial for those with mold allergies.

A: We lived by Bisbee AZ and still had mold. So we moved back to Oregon and just keep the house clean to stop the mold.

Q: Would mold allergies be helped by moving to Utah or Arizona?
I currently live in an area where it is very cold in the winter and hot an dhumid in the summer. I have been diagnosed with allergies to the phoma family of mold. Would it benefit me to move somewhere like Utah or Arizona where it is dry?

A: If you don't want to deal with an allergy regimen, I guess anywhere but Tennessee. My aunt's allergist says it has the most kinds of mold in this country. But for her it's been cheaper to do the treatments than move.

Q: What can a person do when your allergies are mold allergies?
I have 3 mold allergies

A: The best thing to do is find out what kind of mold you are allergic go so you can attack it the right way. If you are like me you are allergic to both. The best way is to keep your home as clean as possible - air purifiers, hypoallergenic pillow/mattress covers, vacuum and dust often! I keep an assortment of allergy medications and remedies around the house (some RX, some OTC). They all seem to be hit or miss for me. I recommend trying different OTC medicines to see if that helps - and I highly encourage you to try a saline solution like SaltAire. Almost always help with my congestion. If not you may want to have it checked out and try some high-potent Rx stuff. Hope this helps!

Q: How do I know if my 9 month old has mold allergies?
My 9 month old and my 18 month old are currently staying with me at my mother-in-laws until we sell our house. The children have had runny noses and cold symptoms. I just found out that there is mold growing on the walls in the basement and her dryer is venting into a room in the basement. Can this be harmful to my children?

A: Yes, mold is very dangerous to kids. breathing to much in can be hamful i suggest buying cleaning supplies and gloves and try to clean it off. most of the time mold comes from water. the dampest part of the wall is where the mold will grow. that doesnt mean it will grow on all of your damp walls.

Q: Can feeding my dog local honey help his grass and mold allergies?
We had him tested and he is allergic to grass and mold. Great. Causes itching, redness, hair loss

A: No, honey can likely make it worse, it is made with pollen. Did your vet not give you some meds for your dog's allergies? You can give him Benadryl by mouth and put the gel on any hives or skin rashes, but you really should get something that will stop his allergies. I have a dog who has allergic reactions, he gets meds when he has a flare up and a shot of prednisone when it is really bad. The Benadryl helps him too.

Q: how do I get rid of my mold allergies?
I have drainage down the back of my throat and it makes it hard to breathe. My nose is also inflammed and I have nose bleeds in the morning. The mold index is very high in the area where I live (27,000) Midwest. Please advise.

A: Take LOCAL honey. It will work with your body to develop immunity to all the air born irritants around you-this includes pollen, pet dander, smog, dust and MOLD. Do NOT take anti histamines or nose sprays for this. They dry out your body and can cause long term damage to your internal organs. Like all herbal remedies, it will take a while to work but you will be satisfied with the results. Local honey is 100% natural and causes no side effects or problems. Please give local honey a chance. You only have one body-take care of it.

Q: Can you get chest pains and difficulty breathing by allergies to mold/and or dust?
I've had chest tightness for the past two days, and at night sometimes there's a bit of pain right under my collarbone (is that really the chest? if not, what is it?) and I went to my doctor yesterday, he said it was allergies to mold and/or dust, and prescribed me some Claritin. I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem with allergies?

A: yes, it's common. You may have asthma and the mold may be a trigger for asthma. You might want to ask your doctor about it. If it is still bothering you after being on Claritin for a few days ask your doctor and see if he will do a peak flow test...

Q: alternative therapies to help with allergies to dust, mold?
I would like to learn more about natural remedies to help with allergies to dust, mold, and alternatives to asthma and allergie medications. I'm currently on loritidine, singulair, albuterol, advair. how do you best talk to your doctor about these alternative treatments as they usually don't know and it probably isn't best to just not tell them.. thank you.

A: No matter how much medication you take, if you constantly expose to the environment with those allergens, your symptoms will continue to re-occur. Allergy medicines are excellent, if you should meet those allergens you mentioned unexpectedly, but do not expose yourself to them because you are taking allergy medications.

Q: does any 1 have mold allergies in dubai or middleeast?
i think i have mold allergies i live in dubai i moved here from canada few years back and started to have allergies, i sneeze a lot and get a lotttt of mucus in back of my throat which some times goes to my lungs and cause big probelms. does any 1 else have this problem how do u deal with it and you have any advices for me.

A: If you leave your house for several hours or even a day to go somewhere does it get better? This would be a clue that it is something in your house versus something in the air.

Q: What is the best remedy for mold allergies?
Specifically as related to sinus problems.

A: You can treat them like any other indoor allergies with antihistamines and decongestants but there are also prevention methods. Reduce the level of humidity in your house. Run the air conditioning or heat if you live in a humid climate. Also try to elimate any areas of standing water like leaky pipes, bathroom mold/mildew, houseplants. Any of these can promote the growth of mold. If you are trying to kill mold in your home, bleach will usually work.

Q: Natural Remedies for Mold and Dustmite Allergies?
Unlike others who are pollen sensitive, my worst allergies are to mold and dustmites. I work hard to keep my environment clean, but living in classic old city buildings means there is only so much I can do. I'm tired of walking around with red eyes and "allergy shiners" all the time. Nothing has really worked since they took Seldane off the market... Benadryl gives some relief but makes me so drowsy I can hardly work. Can't afford expensive allergy shots,, don't want to do cortisone, and I would rather use natural remedies anyway. Help?

A: I've taken Seldane a couple of times and it was possibly the most potent antihistamine I've ever had. My methods for allergy relief now are quite different. I work as a doctor of chiropractic/clinical kinesiologist in a sports chiropractic clinic. I use a very specific allergy elimination technique that works great as well as get rid of any inflammation in the nervous system and bugs in your gut to assist with allergies of all types. If I knew what area you lived in I could possibly advise you on where to go/who to see. In any case, I can't vouch for other doctors' results but two websites may be of interest/help: see below. Allergies are nothing more than your brain's inability to recognize certain substances properly and respond properly. Acupuncture, kinesiology, nutrition, etc...are all good for relieving allergy symptoms and get to the root of the problem.

Q: What is a good allergy medication or treatment for allergies to mold spores?
Please, only answers from people who go through this or from someone medically qualified to answer. And I prefer some medication that is not too harsh, like Allegra! I'm looking for something that won't whack me out.

A: It all depends on how mild/severe your symptoms are to the mold. I would say start with bleach and kill as much mold as you can. Depending on your signs/symptoms if you are having just nasal congestion try Flonase, Nasonex, or Nasoqort. If you have congestion in the chest, sinus cavities, sneeze, runny nose...try Zyrtec or Allegra. You can also try Claritin, Alivert, or good old Benadryl (all OTC meds). If you having itchy watery eyes...Patinol works wonders. Either way see an allergist to have testing done to see how severe your allergies are...sometimes you need to have multiple meds to combat the allergies just to function till you can start shot therapy. Hope this helps from someone who is just about allergic to everything.

Q: What is the best medicine for allergies to mold, grass and tree pollen?
Symptoms are mostly aching body and joints, sinus congestion.

A: Deselex
